Project Description:
Vancouver’s Cambie Street is home to one of the city’s most refined Italian restaurants where gourmet cuisine is served in an ambient setting, and an extensive wine list features more than 2,500 bottles – La Terrazza. We had the pleasure of working with the owners of the restaurant and designer, Nigel Walker & Associates, on a magnificent renovation in 2016.
Aslan has a twenty-year working relationship with Nigel as we first worked together on the design of La Terrazza before construction began, from 1997 to 1998. This time around the focus was on intertwining new and old world styles.
All of the walls were reconstructed with a multi layer Italian plaster finish. Millwork was painted on-site to create an ultimately antique finish, with gold leaf accents. The dome ceiling in the main dining room was decorated with silver leaf and finished with an antique look. We also introduced a beam system over the hallway and the main bar to evoke a heritage feel.
Additionally, this renovation included custom-made eglomise mirrors and murals which were all hand painted off-site on canvas and installed at the end of the project. In total, La Terrazza restaurant was closed for 18 days during this redesign project.
